Thirst

I Thirst

By Mr. Atilano

The world cannot truly satisfy the deep desires of our hearts. We constantly search for things to make us happy, yet nothing lasts. Only God, the Living Water, can quench our thirst so completely that we will never thirst again.

Deacon Steve said, “The Bible is here for us to read, but how many of us take the time to open it? The Bible is the Word of God, offering direction for our lives. By embracing His Word, we discover the wisdom and guidance we need. Be thirsty for His words—drink deeply from them.”

Think about this: after a significant problem is resolved, have you ever heard someone say, “I know there is a God, and now I want to know Him more”? This happens because God’s mercy, love, and patience stir something in us through the Holy Spirit’s presence.

What do you thirst for? Is it your cellphone, or is it God? God is jealous for your love. He desires that you love Him more than anything else. When you open your heart to His grace, you’ll discover you don’t need anything else. His love is more than enough.

We often turn to temporary things—medicine, diets, workouts, careers, or wealth—to find fulfillment. Yet none of these can replace the eternal peace and joy that only God provides. To satisfy your soul, you must thirst for the Lord first.

What is the ultimate gift of God? It is love—a love so deep that nothing else can compare. Jesus Christ died for our sins, offering the greatest act of love imaginable. This is why the saints had such strong relationships with God and Mama Mary.

As teens, our thirst for God can feel different. It depends on our experiences, situations, and desires. But how do we make this thirst a reality? The Holy Spirit is the one who helps us. The Spirit leads us to wisdom, guides us to explore faith more deeply, and connects us with the right people to grow our relationship with the Lord.

God’s first invitation to us is simple: say yes. He knocks on the door of our hearts in every situation—whether during moments of success or deep struggles. These moments are His way of reaching out. Say yes. Ask, and you will receive.

Look at the example of nuns. Their thirst for God leads them to dedicate their lives to Him entirely. They focus on the Lord and the Holy Eucharist, setting aside material things and the comforts of life. They found God in their hearts because they were willing to seek Him above all else.

We must also be willing to open our hearts to God. Begin by praying and asking Him to enter your life. Start by confessing your sins, letting go of anger, and releasing any unbelief. This is how you can experience His love, grace, and fulfillment in its fullness.
