Making A Dream come true. San Antonio Covered Court

Became a public servant when I run and was elected as Kabataang Barangay Chairman from 1980-1985.

It was a time when residents were very passive youth hardly participate in the projects of the community for parents would rather have their children play and mingle with a very selective group rather than allow their children to be involved in the community.

But this was not a reason for John to be discouraged, in fact, he took it as a challenge. He awakened the concern and the interest of the youth for the betterment of the place where they live in. For after all, who else would take care of our community if not the people who live in it, he declares.

We gathered more than 30 teams in a single tournament for volleyball and basketball without the usual Team Managers sponsoring it.

Our community so big and is divided geographically into four sition our area.

For many years our community is fighting among different Sitios trying to outdo each other that has brought about division among the youth.

When I was in high school I decided to bring my classmate Romel to Sacred Heart church and was almost beaten up by some youth from that area.

That made me desire to unite our youth to end up this division.

With a very meager financial support from the Barangay, we mobilized the youth to voluntarily supervise the table committees and act as referee for the tournament not only to save money but to train them in handling sports tournaments

True to its objective. It became source of livelihood to some being a referee in other communities.

A Dream to Reality. Our Barangay Cover Court.

When I was hired as a legislative staff officer of Councilor Raul Oloy Javier one of our priorities is to have a basketball court in every Barangay

Unfortunately in our barangay we do not have one

It is sad that we have no place to build our basketball court.

I did search for properties owned by our Municipality from the and the only one I we had is a public market in Lumbayao Street.

I went to the Municipal custodian to research on it.

I requested for its title and started to work on it.

With the approval of the office of the Mayor, the barangay negotiated to buy the property of the adjacent houses.

My Letter to the bureau of Internal Revenue

Dear Sir/Madam:

Please be informed that the Barangay San Antonio has proposed to construct a Multi-Purpose Sporte Complex at Lumbavao Street.

To be able to have a standard size basketball court. there is need to buv a portion of the adjacent propertv of Mrs. Purita Buni which is about 8a. meters at Php. 10.000 sa. meters

It took a while to really convince the residents but God is so good we got their nods

Offer was send to the owner of the property Mrs. Purita Buni who is a very close friend of my mother.

The only problem was the back of the court. I personally negotiated and requested Saint Paul Seminary to a portion of their property.

I was always in communication with them

When I got its approval, we requested for a plan and estimate at the office of Engineer Nelson Erasga.

We solicited funds from the City Council and the barangay funds.

Looking back what made them say yes

They saw the sincerity and concern for the youth.
